A girl in Malaysia killed her self after posting an Instagram poll asking her followers to choose between Life and Death. She asked followers if she should live or die and 69% voted for death.
She posted an Instagram poll with the message ” Really Important, Help Me Choose D/L”. After most responders voted for “death”, she killed herself.
Police are investigating the case. This case has prompted a lawyer to suggest that those who voted for her to die should be guilty of encouraging her to take such action. Ramkarpal Singh a lawyer said ” The girl would still be alive if the majority of netizens didn’t encourage her to take her life. Would she have heeded the advice of netizens to seek professional help had they done so?
In February Instagram posted that they would be launching a ‘sensitivity screens’ feature for the self-harming related contents following the death of a British teenager Molly Russell.
This Incident shows us how the world has changed and we should encourage people around us to live and help them if they need us. We urge everyone to use reporting tools and to contact emergency services if they see any behaviour that puts people’s safety at risk.”
