The Social media website Facebook has revealed that the unknown hacking group or a hacker has exploited the facebook zero-day vulnerability. It allowed hackers to steal the access token for more than 50 million Facebook accounts.
Facebook posted on its blog published on Friday that its security team discovered the attack on September 25th in the afternoon and immediate action has been taken to protect peoples account.
Facebook further posted that the investigation is still in its early stages, but attackers code impacted the ‘view as’ feature. This feature lets people see how their profile looks to any visitor or someone else.
The vulnerability allowed hackers to steal the access tokens which can be used to overtake peoples account. Access tokens are the equivalent of digital keys that keep people logged in to Facebook so they don’t need to re-enter their password every time they use the app.
